John Scarlett

Born November 17, 1945 in Danville, Illinois, and passed away November 20, 2015 at Mercy Folsom Hospital.


John spent his early years in Buena Park, Calif. graduating from Western High School in June 1963. John played football for Western High, then Fullerton and Long Beach Junior College.

 

In April 1966, John joined the Army and served until August 1971. John served in the 101st Airborne Rangers. He was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He returned home from Vietnam after his helicopter was shot down. He was awarded an Air Medal, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart for his services.


John joined the U.S. Border Patrol and eventually came to San Francisco working as a special agent for Immigration Naturalization Services.

 

While in San Francisco, John met Pegi in January 1978 and they were married on June 11, 1983. In 1988, John and Pegi moved to El Dorado Hills and John joined the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement task force from which he retired in 1997. Together John and Pegi raised six children. John's second love was his motorcycle. Many vacations were spent riding cross country and to Alaska on the bike.

John spent many years serving the El Dorado Hills community as field coordinator for the EDH Recreational Soccer Club, treasurer for EDH Jr. Trojans Football and served 8 years as coordinator for Grad Night for Oak Ridge High School.


He is survived by his wife Pegi, children Jon, Melissa, Tona, Nikki, Ronnie and Alyssa and five grandchildren Hannah, Katie, Christopher, Isaiah and Grace. He is also survived by his sister Mary and nieces Michelle, Jordan, Brady and nephews David, Kyle, Patrick, and John and brother and sisters-in-law Calle, Aldon, Noreen, and Robert.


A celebration of life will be held on December 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Rolling Hills Christian Church, 800 White Rock Rd, EL Dorado Hills. Private Interment at Green Valley Mortuary.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name.
